ANZAC day

ANZAC Day at our school involves many people from the Kahibah Community, and it's
celebrated as close to the 25th April as is possible.

We house the Honour Rolls from World War 1 and World War 2. We also proudly hang a photograph of Robert Oliver, the only person on the honour rolls who was killed in action.

Mr McLardy researched every name mentioned on the list, has written the history of all of those found & also researched their grave sites. This history has been provided to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. We also have a copy of this material at our school and we are very grateful for Mr McLardy's long & painstaking efforts. What he has done is quite unique.

Each year, elder members of our community receive a special invitation to attend our service which has been addressed continuously for the past 30 years by Mr Borham from the Adamstown RSL. This would probably be a record too.

Parents crowd into our hall and they all join in our service which is sombre yet celebratory of the ANZAC spirit and of the strength and courage of so many young men who died or who were maimed. Students run the service. Other children in the school participate with offerings of what ANZAC day means to them and with the reading of Lawrence Binyon's "ODE".

We always follow with morning tea for everyone because it's a great opportunity for the community to get together, especially for the older people who have difficulty getting about.
