Leadership day

The Whitebridge Community of schools runs a leadership day attended by all Year 6 children from our 6 partner schools. Kahibah PS plays host because of our extraordinarily large assembly hall.

Organised by leaders from the Assistant Principals' Network, guest speakers and presenters are engaged in practical and sometimes humorous sessions explaining to students the deeper concepts and responsibilities that are implied in, and expected of, Leadership.

Approximately 200 students are invited from Dudley, Redhead, Charlestown, Charlestown South, Charlestown East and Kahibah Public Schools. Whitebridge High School students run a panel session and an interactive session regarding building positive relationships. Through drama, situations and scenarios are "played out" and the primary students are then asked to comment and to discuss philosophically the repercussions for each scene.

One hands-on activity is especially beneficial. Each group of six students is made up of one student from each of the six schools. This requires cooperation between "unknown" team members who need to communicate and work together to complete the task. Teams need to self-manage. The end result requires serious reflection on how well the group operated.

Over a barbecue lunch, students have the opportunity to inter-mingle and develop new friendships. In fact, they are actively encouraged to do this.

This is one of the many successful programs designed by the Whitebridge Community of Schools aiding in a smooth transition to High School.
